Training your staff to write for web readers
Portfolio item: City of Swan
City of Swan engaged Clarity in 2008 to develop and deliver training for staff who write for the City’s website.
This course explained how writing for the web differs from writing for print or other media. Participants practised web writing techniques and used ideas presented in the course to critique other websites in the industry.
Attendees participated with enthusiasm during the session and formal feedback was very positive.
City of Swan has now upgraded its website and has engaged Clarity to write and deliver a new course for in-house web authors in 2011.
The new course teaches web writing techniques and explains content types and content authorisation workflow defined in the City’s new content management system. Examples and exercises address the top reasons content submissions for the City's website are returned to authors for rework.
